FeralReason on "Update to 3.5.2 in localhost disables post editing"

I tried 4 installs of 3.5.2 on localhost (various permutations) with the same results each time: I cannot write in the post window, use the text tab or the "Add Media" button.

Finally I installed 3.5.1 (worked great) and then updated to 3.5.2 in the dashboard. Again post editing, the text tab and the "Add Media" button were all disabled. No plugins were installed.

I'm running XAMPP version 1.7.4 (on Windows 7)
Apache 2.2.17
MySQL 5.5.8 (Community Server)
PHP 5.3.5 (VC6 X86 32bit) + PEAR

A little old but should be at the right rev levels for 3.5.2.

My son (also on Windows 7) installed 3.5.2 using XAMPP 1.8.2. Wordpress 3.5.2 works properly with that version (contains Apache 2.4.4, MySQL 5.5.32, PHP 5.4.16.)

Hello,

So I've just setup wordpress multisite and it works after more than a few days of fiddling around, following numerous tutorials and contacting my hosting company.

But now I've discovered all my image links are located to localhost like so:
Now I migrated my local wordpress installation to my server like a week ago.

I don't know if the problem already excisted back then because the images were still able to load from my pc. Or it happened after my multisite being setup.

I've checked my database and under wp_options the "siteurl" is set to balanswelzijn.nl the same goes for "home".

did I miss something or is there any way to easily change all the http://localhost/BalansWelzijn/xxx links to http://balanswelzijn.nl/xxx

hope I was clear enough, thanks in advance,
Balans Welzijn

Hi
I've been trying to investigate this issue for a few months on and off. I have no idea why it started and have tried lots of suggestions to try and fix it.

I have several word press websites running locally on my laptop for testing purposes. A couple of months a go, whilst working happily on one of the websites, my local host suddenly states "error establishing a database connection" and dies.

I'll try and give as much detail as possible:
- Windows 7
- Xxamp 1.7.2
- Wordpress 3.6 for all websites

I've added security passwords to Xxamp and PHPMyAdmin after one posted advised i should. I have updated the wp-config files in the website to reflect this.

I've checked the database names in wp-config files and they are correct.

A typical scenario is...

1) I access http://localhost/website and it loads
2) I access http://localhost/website/wp-login.php and I can log in
3) I click around in the dashboard, visit the site and all is OK.
4) I log out and visit another localhost website and all of a sudden the "Error establishing a database connection" and it drops off.
5) I can log into Xxamp but can't get into PHPMyAdmin anymore

Or another scenario...
1) Logged into local website and all seems fine
2) I need to take a backup of the database as WP needs updating, so I log into Xxamp, all seems fine
3) Then I try and get into PHPMyAdmin and I get "Cannot start session without errors, please check errors given in your PHP..."
4) Then I try and click around on the website again and this goes as well "Object not found"

It might be worth mention that I can sometimes log into PHPMyAdmin, it seems totally intermittent. Am i doing something to trigger the error? Have i installed something which is interfering?

I'm completely flummoxed. Help anyone please

Many thanks in advance

Hello there,

I am fairly new to the WordPress ecosystem, but I noticed something that doesn't seem like it should be happening.

I am running the most current WAMP server and WordPress install on an XP machine, and placed my wordpress install in my local server directory a couple days ago from today.

Well, I was checking my email this morning (an email that has nothing to do with my WordPress registration) as I regularly do, and noticed I received an email from someone to my localhost. But it was weird because it was sent to my personal email.

I don't know if it is spam, if something is compromised, or what it might be, but it seems super odd. Any help or advice I would appreciate. Thank you very much in advance.

J.J. Springer on "[Plugin: Jetpack by WordPress.com] Activate Button for Tiled Galleries in Jetpack missing"

$

Hello!

I can't seem to figure out how to get the Tiled Galleries to work in Jetpack. Here's what happened:

I've been testing a new theme on a local install of WordPress (using MAMP) and I realized that the tiled galleries post in the Theme Unit Test data isn't working. I went to the Jetpack Tiled Gallery option in the Jetpack plugin and notice that there is no "activate" button only "learn more". I think perhaps there isn't one? I go to Media > Settings and there isn't the "display as cool mosaic" option to select. I go back and activate Carousel, thinking it might be related, nothing.

I remove all the themes except twentythirteen from my themes folder, doesn't help. I deactivate all plugins except Jetpack, doesn't help. I downloaded a new version of 3.6 and replace all the core files, doesn't help. I delete and reactivate Jetpack, doesn't help.

I'm wondering if it's an issue with me being on a localhost install instead of web. So I go to my blog: chickadeedesignery.com and see if it's showing up there (on 3.6 with updated Jetpack) and the activate button shows up there. So it's just my local install.

Is there something that I'm doing wrong? Does the tiled galleries not work on local installs? Can I not have a local install and my blog both linked to the same account? Am I missing something obvious? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for the help.

J.J.

PS: Here's the Jetpack code copied from what my browser(Chrome) is seeing, looks like the activate button doesn't even appear:

<h3>Tiled Galleries</h3>
<div class="jetpack-module-description">
	<div class="module-image">
		<p><span class="module-image-badge">Free</span><span class="module-image-free" style="display: none">Free</span></p>

I installed WAMP then WP6 using the Bitnami WAMP stack and WP module on local Win7 machine.

Went through step-by-step to enable multisite, very carefully modified .htacess & wp-config (I replaced everything in .htacess, double checked wp-config)

Tried to log back into site after network install and the default WP blog page just keeps refreshing.

I did all of the things listed on this page
http://halfelf.org/2012/multisite-login-loop/

Here is my .htacess

Any help would be appreciated, I've spent a day searching and trying to fix myself. I've seen some similar reports but thought I should start a new thread.
Thanks,

I have followed several people's instructions on moving my local site to my server, however, I continue to run into this issue:

"If you’ve inserted something incorrectly in your wp-config.php file or the new server’s MySQL database was not setup properly, you’ll know because you’ll see WordPress’s database connection error."

I have a feeling I did something wrong in the MySQL database step as I get the following error message when importing the revised file:
Error

SQL query:

--
-- Database: MolinaroAppraisalServices

CREATE TABLE wp_commentmeta (
meta_id bigint( 20 ) unsigned NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT ,
comment_id bigint( 20 ) unsigned NOT NULL DEFAULT '0',
meta_key varchar( 255 ) DEFAULT NULL ,
meta_value longtext,
PRIMARY KEY ( meta_id ) ,
KEY comment_id ( comment_id ) ,
KEY meta_key ( meta_key )
) ENGINE = InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET = utf8 AUTO_INCREMENT =1;

MySQL said: Documentation
#1050 - Table 'wp_commentmeta' already exists

Can anyone help me? It's either that or I'm entering the wrong info into my wp-config.php file. Site is http://www.molinaroappraisalservices.com.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

I tried to test this plugin first when I had App Domain and Site URL fields on facebook app set for localhost, the plugin wasn't quite working well for localhost so I changed that to my domain mydomain and now it shows the The webpage cannot be found when I click on "Login with Facebook" button on the form.

"Your Facebook App Info" settings page still shows the old localhost for Site URL and Site Domain(s) value.

Could I do something to get it working?

Hi all,
I've got my server up and running on my raspberry. Wordpress is more or less functional, but I can only access my front-page. If I add a new page, it will show up in the sites header, but will result in a 404 error if I click it. Looking at the DB entry in phpmyadmin, I've found the guid and entered that directly into my server and still get the 404.

I have enabled permalinks several times. Redone my .htaccess file and have cleaned out all the mess that posting all of these unaccesible pages has made of my DB and retried to no avail.

At a high level it looks like wordpress is writing to the database fine, but cannot access these posts, or is looking in the wrong spot. Example - the guid that i get from a new post resolves to the proper permalink structure(post name), but apache throws a 404 when the browser gets redirected to either the guid page, or permalink page.

Any ideas?

Will CF7 work on localhost?

I am getting success messages after filling in the form and submitting however no email is being sent.

Just wondering if this is due to my site being on my xampp server?

Anyone have any ideas?

If you are trying to send emails from any WordPress installation, you will need to make sure you have a functioning mail server setup there.

Local installs (using MAMP, WAMP, XAMPP etc.) often don't have this capability. Trying to test CF7 email functionality on a local WordPress installation with no mail server capability appears to be a common mistake.

See You need a functioning mail server.

My MBP 15 on 10.7.5 used to deploy MAMP locally like a dream, but after I tried out OpenDNS (switching my DNS's to the recommended IPs), whenever I tried hitting localhost, ODNS blocked/redirected it to a search.

Eventually, I stripped my DNS settings, and it returned back to the default IP assigned by Comcast (10.x.x.x).

So when opening MAMP now, when I hit Start Servers, I get both green lights. But the start page comes up, and I get "Firefox can't find the server at localhost.", "Oops! Google Chrome could not find localhost:8888". http://localhost:8888/MAMP/?language=English, http://localhost:8888/, etc show nothing. :(

After about 3 hours of cold research and trial-and-error reinstalling, messing around in Activity Monitor, modifying host files, httpd.conf, etc. I'm right where I started.

I have no idea how to "clear" the effect ODNS had on my setup, and I have some certainty that that was the cause, as it worked without a hitch before. Should I abandon my efforts to MAMP (short of wiping out my computer)? Or is there a way I can get it back working?

Appreciate your response, WP.org.

I've trying to install wordpress on my pc running window 7 and using wampserver v2 and after imputing my username and password for the last step in the installation I come to a blank screen with the wordpress logo that leads to the wordpress.org and it stays on there. If I refresh it ask me to repair the database once i do that I get this message at the bottom of the page

Not sure what's happening - standard install, created db, filled-out and uploaded wp-config.php, navigate to url in browser and get redirected to my own pc (localhost is my now my pc instead of the host's machine).

I tried this on three different machines, two pc's and one mac. All redirect back to themselves.

Ideas?
